Back On Two Wheels

I’m ready now. It’s been nearly five weeks. The surgeon said don’t cycle for six weeks. I asked a straightforward question. Could I cycle an electric bike a bit sooner? Her answer was pragmatic and reassuring.

Maybe at four weeks. You’ll know yourself. Nothing too hilly. Maybe thirty minutes to an hour.

– Surgeon Niamh F.

Last week was number four. I cycled gently to get olives and hummus at the market in town. Just short of three kilometres in total, there and back. First trip negotiated safely.

Today is day two. I may cycle thirty minutes. It’s all very exciting. Also, it’s raining. Five weeks of scorched earth is over. A return to normal service is on the cards.

My body is recovering well. Likewise, my garden. Autumn will be so exciting after all the restrictions of summer ’26.

Healthy mind in a healthy body. Garden, bike, jog and swim. The magic bullet is writing about it all so when I'm eighty-something I can read back about the days I'll have forgotten.
